Hey guys! Sorry it took so long for this to be posted I was actually waiting for the official pictures coming from the the management of the said event since I wasn't able to take lotsa pictures due to my memory card problem and I was out of charge halfway through ugggh!

Anyway I've decided to post this while the experience is still fresh in my memory. I would like to once again apologize if I wasn't able to take loads of pictures since I was with my dog as well. Please be reminded that I am only going to talk about my experience and opinions about the event. If you're looking for more details and general information I suggest to check out their official FB page here

What was it about?
Octoberpetstival was an event mainly for human and your pet animals. Octoberpetstival aims to raise awareness on how to take care of your pet and at the same promotes rabies eradication. You can check out  more details of what was the event about on my previous post (click here) The main highlight of this event was the fun run marathon. There were 3 categories 1.5km, 3km, & 5km

When and where was it held?
It was held on October 22, 2016 at Imus Complex. The venue was supposed to be in Vermosa unfortunately the weather was not cooperating during that week so they've decided to changed it at the last minute so the event took place in Imus Sports Complex.
♥Event♥
We've arrived at the venue at about 3PM, the first thing we saw was the registration booth and the big tarp showing the fun race map. I did not expect to have a fully air conditioned venue so I was really amazed how the sports complex has changed :) I remember it as typical covered court you would see in your subdivision.. I was even expecting to sweat a lot from the weather. Kudos to our mayor for providing a venue for our beloved animals and for making Imus sports complex as a suitable and comfortable place to hold an event

okaaaaay Back to the topic.. since we got our kit beforehand we were asked to go inside and get our loot bag. The place like mentioned was fully air conditioned so we did not have to worry about the heat.

I saw many different booth inside upon arriving...most of them were packed with different people, you could see chairs in the middle and pets mostly dogs lying and or walking around with their furparents.

We sat in the left wing part of the complex to prepare ourselves. The program started by giving a talk on how to properly take care of your animal while running. They've also talked about the importance of of cleanliness and being responsible dog owner. Pet blessing was also conducted by a priest.

during the pet blessing
I was able to go around the booth and got some freebies from them. My partner even had a cute paw tattoo courtesy of st. roche

some of the booths we've visited

♥Fun Run♥
Since I am really not a sporty person I've decided to ask my long time partner to do running the for me :) I always make him do the activities associated with physical things or playing games since he is the competitive type =3  After the talks we were asked to go out so we can get ready for the run.

Since my dog and hubby were running I was sitting on the side waiting for them to start. It took a while for the marathon to start mainly because we were waiting for mayor maliksi to start the whole fun run.

We had to wait the latest since we were at the 1.5km race, the longer ones had to go first and those who were on the 1.5km had to go last. Here was the picture of them running..my 2 handsome boys on action :D
taken from Mayor Maliksi's FB page
I was thinking that I had to wait for a good 20 minutes before they finished however I miscalculated...not even 10 minutes passed by and my boys were back they've won the 1.5km! I am soooo proud of you guys!!!Too bad I didn't have picture of them running  to the finish line since I was getting some milk tea to supposedly kill the time while waiting.
picture of them winning thee prize

♥Seminar & games ♥
After the marathon we were instructed to come back inside the complex and were given enough time to recover. After that more talks were conducted and mayor maliksi had the chance to talk as well. Some people were also invited to give a some advice and tips on how to become an effective pet owner. Sponsors were also given a chance to talk about their products and promote them.

Games were also done in between by some major sponsors. Fashion show was also done and of course the awarding ceremony for the winners.
awarding of 1.5km winner
Photo booth was also available for those who were registered and given a stub. At the end of the event, Royal Canin one of the major sponsors, gave away a one year supply of dog food for those lucky winners who won on the confetti games.

What do you like about the event?
  • I love the venue, since we had a dog with us, the heat is not good for them so I love how Imus complex was fully air conditioned and the fact that there were cleaners everywhere to clean and mop the floors
  • it wasn't over crowded so we never had  a hard time managing our dogs
  • the booths were somewhat generous in giving freebies
  • The freebies were also very good, we were given eco bags and  treats for our pets
  • During the marathon water was provided for the runners and also for our pet
  • food like somai and milktea booth were also there and we were very near the night stand for food, we were able to go there after the event to get some snacks
  • the event was educational, there were things I've learned and few things I discovered because of the talks and seminar
  • The host was pretty much very entertaining and audiences were very  keen  on participating.
What do you not like about it?
  •  I came a little late but I never saw the supposed anti rabbies program that was on the list.
  • The event was a little disorganized in my opinion since some of the programs I was waiting never occurred and there were delays especially on the fun run marathon.
  • There were supposed to be a warm up for the marathon but It also never happened.
  • We waited a for looooooong time before the fun run started because we had to wait for Mayor Maliksi to join.Don't get me wrong though I like our mayor but we could have probably spent our time into doing something other than waiting because it was really not a good thing to wait while having animals with you. My dog for one was very impatient and since some dogs were pooping on the street I had to carry him like a baby. He weighed 8kilos to 9kilos  and the next morning I had sore arms.
  • The host kept on repeating what she was saying over and over and over during the wait. It was reaaaalllly annoying for me I mean it was like a broken radio. She could have used the time into saying something waaaay better rather than repeating the same information over and over. It was bloody annoying. You see how annoyed I was? I kept on doubling my letters to emphasize how i felt lol
  • there was also a confusion between the given ribbon for the 5km human only and 5km human and pets. One of the reasons why the marathon was  delayed

some of our freebies :D

Aside from the ones I mentioned, I believe the event was a success one way or another so I would like to congratulate the sponsors and the organizers of Octoberpetstival. This type of event gathers animal enthusiast and dog lover like me. It was very overwhelming to see that there were many people who participated and were willing to spend their time with their pets. Aside from that it is also good to know that the local government is very keen and supportive in making this event successful.  It was truly a very good experience for me. I am looking forward for next year and I am surely hoping to have better one :)

And last but not the least  here are the pictures on what we've got during the event.  and what we bought from the 3k GC prize for winning the marathon :)

,
Hello guys! For today's post I will be talking about Canine pregnancy. So why will I talk about this? Remember I told you about the  reason I was on hiatus for  half a year? The main reason behind this was because of my furbabies giving birth. Not one but three of em so it was like a whole  6 months of me  becoming a nanny not that I complain though :)

So for today's post I will give you basic information on what to expect and what to do BASED on my experience when your beloved four legged is giving birth. Again Please be reminded that all of the things I will mention here are based solely on my experience I am no expert, it is still best to always consult your vet for more and detailed information.

assisting my furbaby

Brief Information

You've successfully mated your dog. So what now?

There are many information available online and it is best to first plan the pregnancy of your dog, a thorough research is a must for you to know the basic and detailed information on what to really expect during the pregnancy period. I am only going to tackle the basic information on what you should expect after your furbaby got mated. There are tons and tons of information online you can search and ask mr. google for it.

Here are the basic things you should see once you have successfully mated your dogs

♦ Dogs gestational period is between 58-68days after its first mate
♦ For the first 30 days there is no major changes on her. Some dogs will feel a little lethargic a week after it got mated, some vomit and some might loose their appetite. It is normal.
♦ No particular bumps on the belly untill a month after mating
♦You should be able to see some changes on her specially on 45th day
♦ Her nipples will start to become bigger and fuller,
♦ Her fur will also start thinning on her belly
♦ She will eat more than usual. Some will start after 30days some start after 45days
♦ At 45 days above you should be able to confirm her pregnancy since puppies will start moving

There are many ways to tell, these are some of the examples you can search for it or ask your vet for more detailed information.

Preparation:

Like Humans we also need  to prepare for the upcoming  delivery day of your furbaby. Here are the things I usually buy whenever I confirmed my furbaby is preggy.

pics were all taken from google images

Thermometer - very vital for you to have so you can check your dog's temperature.  I usually start taking my dog's temperature  when she reaches her 58 days. I check her rectal temperature 3 times a day. I gradually increases it to 5 to 6 times when she is on her 63 days on wards. Once it goes down to 36c,  within 24hrs  she will  deliver her babies

pen and paper - You need these two to record the temperature results

Alcohol & betadine -  Before using equipment such as scissors or thread I make sure to soak it for 5 to 15mins in a basin with alcohol and betadine. I also use betadine  for the wound after cutting the umbilical cord

Clamp - you know those things that doctors use to stop the bleedin or clip  something? yea those ones you need it for the umbilical chord. You use it to clip it before cutting to stop the blood.

nasal aspirator - You need this so that when the pup is out of the sac the remaining fluid on his face nose and mouth can be sucked out using the aspirator

disposable gloves

Thread: To use in tying the remaining umbilical cord  after cutting it

Weigh - to measure the pup's weight

box or comfy place for your dog - A place where your dog can be comfortable for her when giving birth

Lamp with light at least 20 watts output - For the 2 weeks puppies cannot create their own heat so they need something like the lamp to make sure they will have the proper heat for the first  two weeks of their lives.

Milk replacer and bottle feeder for the pups- you never know what might happen so it is best to have an available alternative just incase

dextrose powder - pretty helpful once she is contracting. To ensure that she will be well hydrated mix it on her drinking water.

calcium vits and moringga vits  - after giving birth she needs to get back her energy and all the nutrients she lost, give her these vitamins.

Clean towels and sheets

Old temp results

How can you tell if your dog is going to pop up?

There are signs you can see when your dog is starting on her first stage of labor

♠ Your dog is restless

♠ she seems to be more clingy
♠ she doesnt like to eat
♠ she is digging on her box or digging somewhere dark
♠ panting hard
♠ Temp dropped

What Should I do if she's showing some of these signs?

♦ Well the first thing is to notify your vet! That is very important in case of emergency at least your vet is aware.
♦ By this time you should have been monitoring her temperature. once It goes down to 36c ( e.g 36.8 below) she will give birth within 12 to 24 hours
♦ ready your equipment make sure everything  is in place. Mix the  dextrose powder and calcium vits  on her drinking water to be ready.
♦ then wait. yes! you have to wait and monitor  her remember she cannot speak she wont be able to tell you when she's contracting. so you have to be very observant.

my baby and her little ones

OMG my dog is contracting she is pushing! What should I do! what should I do??!

Most dogs can be left alone when giving birth BUT make sure they are monitored. There are cases when your dog wont really know what to do and will get confused. So as the owner it is your responsibility to support her. Here are some things might worth reading and consider while you are trying to support your dog when she is giving birth:

♣Calm down! :)  check if she is really contracting, you should see her pushing. Once you confirmed she is pushing make sure you notify your vet that she is now on the process of giving birth.

♣ you need to make sure she is also well hydrated giving her a mix of water and dextrose powder and calcium vitamin use a syringe if necessary.

♣ Your dog will keep pushing, yes she might do this for a long time. DON'T PANIC check first if her water broke. If her water hasn't come out yet then you just gotta wait until it breaks or comes out.  It doesn't matter how long she will push as long as no water bag has been broken the baby and the mother are both safe .

♣  if her water breaks , allow her to push... now this is going to be a little bit tricky since her time is now a bit limited  After the water breaks the pup should come out  within the next 20 mins give or take.

♠ After pushing and If the pup has gone down to the birth canal, it needs to come out within the next 7 minutes. since its oxygen is very limited and a possible drowning can occur.

♣ If the pup is half way out and your dog is still having a hard time  pushing the whole pup , try to to help her by holding the pup and try pulling it out veeeeerrrry gently when i say gently... very very gently in this way it will trigger her to push more.

♣  if the pup got stuck halfway and the pulling did not work or no matter how many pushes she makes it still not coming out. immediately call your vet and notify him about the pup,  Remember the time is running out we do not want the pup to drown and we also do not want to risk the other pups who are ready to come out but they are just being blocked. There is a possibility of it being stuck there because its way too big to come out from the birth canal so your dog may go for C- Section.

Yey one pup is out! What should I do next?

♣ Make sure that the placenta is out as well.  make sure that the pup is also out its sack, mother dog will usually burst it and will immediately lick the puppy  to stimulate it and start biting the umbilical cord. However there are some cases like what I have mentioned above that the mother dog will get confused and will not know what to do, so If you observe that your dog is not doing anything with the pup immediately take over, make sure that the puppy is out of the sack.

♣ Once everything is out use your clamp and scissors to cut the umbilical chord and use  betadine to disinfect it you can tie it using the thread

♣ Use the aspirator to suck out the remaining amniotic fluid on the pups mouth and nose, use the towel and rub it gently to dry and stimulate heat. then place it to your dog's  belly so it can then look for the nipples to start sucking for the milk

♣ Please make sure to turn on the lamp while the puppy being fed this is to ensure that  the pup is getting the right amount of heat.

little ones feeding time

It has been a while since my dog was pushing I can still lumps on her stomach!

♣ This is an indication that there are more  puppies coming. It sometimes take time for it to really go down, you might see your dog pushing and if she  has been pushing for quite sometime now but no pup is coming out Do not panic! This is normal, there is a possibility that the puppy is way up her stomach that is why its taking its sweet time to go down.

♣ I have asked my vet about this and he has mentioned that in every pup there is something  like a water bag, As long as there is no fluid or water breaking while she is pushing then you're dog and the pup is okay.

Once your dog has finally  given birth to all her puppies there are things that you need to consider or make sure of:

♣ Make sure she is getting the right amount of food. and is well hydrated

♣ contact your vet and schedule an appointment so he can check both the mother and puppies

♣ Make sure that she is getting the proper  vitamins, give her calcium  and moringga vitamins, these will help her produce more milk and most of all give her tender love and  care!!

Please remember Always make sure your vet is well aware of what is happening so he can help you right away and give you more directions if all the things i mentioned above fail. And Again I am no expert :) So AGAIN please make sure to always always consult your vet.

So there you have it :D Thank you for reading this, please look forward to my next post!!

Canine Pregnancy: when your dog is giving birth

,
L to R : Anushka, Alioth and thier mom Nami
Hey guys! I have been busy these past few months with all the holiday spirit going on and all the family events I needed to attend to. Sooo I wasn't able to update my blog. Today I thought maybe I should perhaps write something .. So I decided to write about one of the things that keeps me busy! Dogs! Ye heard that right :) If you've read my  very first post, I've mentioned  that I am a Dog lover. I currently have 5 of them. I consider them as part of my family so Yes they are my babies :)

stolen shot LOL

What is your dog's breed? Shihtzu which literally means lion dog in chinese I think. I particularly love this breed because of their temperament. So far I haven't tried handling other breed because I wanted to master on how to handle shihtzu.

Is it easy to have dogs? Yes and No. Dogs need a lot of attention like children. They need you to become the pack leader so they will follow you. Financially wise you have to be ready at least.

You've got many dogs! What made you decide to have that many?!

Well, at first I only wanted to have one, but there's a saying : You cannot just have one shihtzu, which  is true for me. Once you've got one you won't be able to help your self to have one and another and another only to realize that you've got too many but cannot give up any of them. Do you get what I mean?

What's so good about dog?

I can list down many good facts about having a dog! Here are the things that made me fall in love with them:

◘ They are just adorable!
They are literally the cutest of all especially newborn pups. They look like aliens! A cute alien ahaha

me and  my adroable caoimhe

◘ They love you more than themselves
This is a fact. They will never get tired of you no matter what you do. They are literally the happiest living thing on earth once they see you at the door after leaving for a few hours.

◘ They will never hate you
Regardless of what you do towards them.. You can be mean to them, You can be an asshole to them (sorry for the word) but they won't ever ever hate you...ever

◘ Show them love, they will show you love tenfold

Give them love, they will give you love 100x in return.  Give them house , they will give you a warm home you'll never get lonely. Give them food, they will give you  their 100% loyalty and you will never be alone.

Alka and me

◘ Dogs are 100% stress reliever

Check it with mr. google! It is fact :) they are  natural stress relievers. Just seeing them  greeting me  at the door made all the pain from traffic or busy day go away they are very natural at that :D

◘ Dogs are man's best friend

They won't back stab you.  You can be a bad owner (bad owner don't deserve them!) or even think bad about them.. but to them you are irreplaceable , you are their world, they won't judge you, they won't hate you. You are their precious master. They love you more than themselves.

grooming time

These are only some of the reasons why I love them to bits. There are too many to mention :) The only time that they ever broke my heart is when one of them passed away. To me they are irreplaceable. Someday for sure I'll be able to have children of my own, and I know for sure I won't ever abandoned them, I consider them as my  family.  They are my children.
